Meet Ambika Gupta – Kajal Aggarwal’s luxurious wedding planner who designed the Kashmir to Kanyakumari theme for her big day

Since Kajal has always urged her fans and followers to support small businesses, she had the conversation and asked us to transform the French ambience into an authentic artisanal experience.

“We curated and designed a backdrop of ‘pettis’ or traditional equipment used by coconut tree climbers. Handcrafted and hand painted by local artists with love from tree climbers at the Kadamba Vanam farms in Parmenkenni, Tamil Nadu, we bought them from the farmers themselves and that was a lovely way to support the farmers during these difficult times. Other aspects that also stood out were the Kutch workmanship in furniture, traditional dry palm weave all around, a Chettinad console and brass pots with banana leaves.

The wedding venue was the Taj Mahal Palace in Mumbai, where the design details of Kashmiri were recorded as a special, heartfelt nod to the legacy of Kajal’s local husband, Gautam. The theme was “Shikara – Journey of Love” and it drew on the idyllic and serene beauty of Kashmir by mirroring mountain ranges and the majestic Dal Lake. Ambika recalls: “The mandap was majestic, reminiscent of a pyramid. This was an ode to the hilly terrain of Kashmir and also representative of the merging of self and soul. It was held together by gold frames and translucent baby pink screens. Mandap also wore intricate ones Details of a Shikara, the cladding of the wooden jaalis reminiscent of Kashmir’s houseboats. Powder-blue pashmina embroidery, which was captured in diamond-set frames, added to the warmth. Each guest received a silver bell with a personalized note. “

In the end, everyone enjoyed the intimate size of the wedding along with the multilayered beauty of every design detail, and for Ambika, the experience was even more rewarding because of her client. She says, “Kajal is an extremely down to earth person and her whole family was wonderfully sweet and warm. Kajal and her family are really cute and treated us all like extended members of the family. My biggest downside to getting married was the personal bond that I built it up with the family. It only struck me after the wedding that I actually did a celebrity wedding. “
