Savannah’s own “wedding cake villa”
Listing of the day
Place: Savannah, Georgia
Price: $ 3.3 million
Known locally as the Wedding Cake Mansion for its fanciful exterior, this Baroque house, built in the Second Empire in 1869, is in the heart of Savannah’s Landmark District.
“The special thing about this house is that it is in Monterey Square, probably the most prestigious square in Savannah,” said listing agent Staci Donegan.
The house was built in a federal style in 1869, she said. Around 1890 it underwent a major renovation that changed the style to Second Empire Baroque.
That was when the ornate ironwork was added, along with “pink Georgia marble stairs and a distinctive bay window with opulent stained glass,” Ms. Donegan said. It’s also when a fourth floor was added.
