The bride donates wedding flowers to Topeka nursing homes
TOPEKA, Kan. (KSNT) – After a woman got married in Topeka last weekend, she decided to turn all of her flowers into bouquets and give them to nearby nursing homes.
Porterfields Flowers in Topeka was responsible for the organization and delivered them to the nursing homes. Owner David Porterfield said he has never gotten a bride to be before.
“Flowers can make such a difference to people, and flowers lift everyone’s spirits, and especially in these days when people feel so isolated, it can really add joy to their lives,” said Porterfield.
One of the nursing homes they donated the 30 Boquets to was the assisted living center Homestead of Topeka. One of the workers said the donation was greatly appreciated as residents were not allowed to visit. She said it would also give the residents something to tell.
“For the rest of the day, we’re going to have a lot of conversations about their weddings, weddings they threw why we didn’t do that before,” said Susan Bullock. “This will be a bright day for her.”
The bride said she wanted to remain anonymous but still tell her story so others could follow in her footsteps.
